Latex

Latex beds overall had the best score. About 90% of latex bed owners communicated that their mattress was comfortable in their opinion. Our research suggests that latex beds tend to have a smaller number of downsides than other bed types. Case in point, latex generally has good toughness and tends to not make the sleeper hot or give off a chemical smell initially, at least not as much as most other bed types. Memory (Visco-elastic) Foam

Memory foam beds overall scored behind latex beds and about equally to airbeds. Around 85% of memory foam bed owners indicated that they found their bed to be comfortable. The open cell structure of memory foam means it can equally support and contour to every part of the body.

Air

Air beds, like the Sleep Number Bed, scored nearly the same as memory foam mattresses. Air bed owners indicated that they appreciate the reduced pressure points that the air provides as well as the ability to change the firmness by increasing or decreasing air in the bed via an electric pump.

Innerspring Coil

Innerspring beds overall scored at the bottom. Around 55% of innerspring bed owners indicated that their bed provides good comfort. The shortcoming of these beds centers around sagging, in which peaks and valleys appear within just a few years of purchase and work to undermine comfort and support.
